Cancún

Cancún (from Maya: Kaan kuum 'pot or snake nest') is a Mexican tourist city located on the Yucatán Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, head of the Benito Juárez municipality.

Considered a world-class tourist destination, with certification from the World Tourism Organization, its development project began operations in 1974 as a Planned Integral Center, a pioneer of Fonatur (National Fund for Tourism Development), formerly known as Infratur.
